Speech Therapist

Kelly Szymanski, M.S., CCC-SLP

Kelly Szymanski is a Speech-Language Pathologist from Layton, Utah.  She grew up in Ithaca, NY and wanted an adventure after high school so she decided to try a year at Utah State University (USU) in Logan, Utah. She went on to graduate with both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from USU in 1994 and 1996 respectively.  Kelly started her career working with adults in hospitals, nursing homes, and in patient homes and loved that setting for two years.  She then went on to work as an SLP in Utah public schools as a school-based SLP.

Kelly has experience in working with children who have autism, expressive and receptive language disorders, articulation/phonology delays, apraxia of speech, stuttering, and developmental delays.  She has extensive experience in working with children who have behavior that impedes their progress and enjoys working with families along with children to maximize progress.

A year ago, another adventure fell into place. She moved, with her three children, to Charleston, SC and got married this past February 2017.  Together with her husband, they have a blended family with five children and three dogs which keep them both very busy!  Kelly’s oldest son has Asperger’s and she went through three hospitalizations with her son when he was younger in order to get his behaviors under control.  He’s now 15 and doing extremely well and is enjoying 10th grade. This experience has provided Kelly a unique experience as a therapist as she personally understands the challenges of having a child that doesn’t fit the ‘norm’.

In all of her free time, when kids, dogs, carpools, and chores aren’t calling, she enjoys reading and spending quality time with her husband and friends.
