Owner & Speech Language Pathologist

Ron Thayer, M.S., CCC-SLP

Ron grew up in coastal North Carolina and completed his undergraduate degree at Wake Forest University in 1991 and his Master’s degree in speech-language pathology at East Carolina University in 1994. Ron initially worked as a pediatric therapist in eastern NC before working in both pediatric and geriatric speech pathology as a traveling therapist for a few years, building his experience in Alaska, Utah, Connecticut, and Texas before settling back on the east coast and Charleston in 1997.

After working in a few Lowcountry pediatric–based settings Ron founded Coastal Therapy Services, Inc. Recognizing a need for a different management style in the therapy business, and with a goal of creating a company that nurtured the growth of not only its clients but also its team members, Coastal Therapy opened its doors in 2001. Throughout this venture, Ron has continued his professional growth working with hundreds of clients of varied ages and diagnoses but has especially enjoyed working with children on the Autistic spectrum as well as kids with Down syndrome. Celebrating 20 years in private practice and business ownership, Ron’s career within Coastal has slowly evolved into the business and clinical management side of things over the last few years. In 2014 Ron started Coastal’s sister company, Coastal Early Intervention, and continues to manage this small company and group of EIs as well.

Ron is a long-time board member for Carolina Children’s Charity and is active in raising funds to support local children with special needs. Ron and his wife raised their three children in the Lowcountry and are making the shift to ’empty nesters’ this fall as their youngest follows her siblings to Clemson. When not wearing one of his many Coastal hats, Ron can be found enjoying the outdoors and waterways of our area, running off with his wife to visit one of the kids, or sneaking away from his chores for a quick visit to one of Charleston’s local breweries.
